MarCum LX-9 Digital Sonar Camera Reviews:
Very user friendly, great sonar and camera
I’ve only used it a few times, but its very simple to use. I quickly learned how to turn on/off displays to get the view I wanted. Camera worked really well. It was nice to have the 360 switch to slowly turn the camera under water hands free.
I would highly recommend this product. The only down fall is that it doesn’t come with an owners manual, you have to download one off the internet. Not a huge deal. I set it up in no time on the ice.
If you want camera and flasher option then this unit is for you. Works amazing. If you don’t need/want the camera, go with the LX-7. The other review talking about hole hopping…well all I do is hole hop and it works just as good as my LX-3tci did. No problem whatsoever. It’s bigger than my LX-3 but just as easy to move around with. There’s a strap and a hand hold spot in the back that you can grab and go with as long as you’re not using the camera. The unit has a ton of different viewing options from vertical graph, traditional flasher, and a graph with scrolling history. You can use multiple views and different zoom options for each.
Great product, a little over priced
Very pleased with the system but not worth the money, had great graphing but the camera is not worth the money one will spend on this system, definitely not a hole hopping device
Great unit , all day use on a charge , my second marcum flasher would recommend to beginners and seasoned fisherman
I’ve owned this for over a year now and it works great. I often only use the flasher feature but the dual mode is nice. The kids love having the camera feature. the sonar works fantastic and has helped me find the fish. It is a little expensive but easier to carry one item rather than 2. The camera being in a detachable bag is really nice as well. Easy to unhook and just take the flasher. Great Product and highly recommend.
Fantastic graph, little pricy but once you use it you’ll quickly realize why you forked out the cash, I owned vexilar, humminbird and now this came along and blew the rest out of the water, great interface and packed full of features! Love it.
Feature Rich, Buy it You'll Like It!
A lot of useful features packed into a sizable frame for a total of 18 lbs!
SONAR – .5″ separation, colors that identify density of bottom, Chart feature is outstanding, Digital Sonar is far improved from the Showdown 5.6 Dual Beam I started with. Flasher Sonar- amazing color clarity and adjustable settings. You can easily switch between sonar view types
CAMERA – great feature to show depth of camera from bottom-appears on top right of Hud along w/option to turn on Temp to discern column temp!
Clip for back of camera to hook into cable and focus vertically (top to bottom) with camera(instead of std horizontal view)!
DISPLAY – Despite slightly murky water – there was very crisp image and color displayed and having adj. brightness helped throughout the day w/sun and cloud intermixed in the sky.
Currently needs a fix to offset the HUD info to left of screen, right now range, zoom, flasher are smack-dab in the center of the display. This explains the reason for a 4 of 5 rating. Very frustrating to have to offset camera in order to plainly view the jig as fish are racing in.
OPTIONAL PANNER included- Thanks for tossing it in! It was not as powerful as I hoped for when in single digit temps – unit lags with 2 C-cell batteries.
FYI – Highly recommend working with the simulator interface BEFORE hitting the water – you will be best served by becoming accustomed to navigating thru the view options + the camera options.
WISH LIST – Would hope the manual adds touch display in the future and in the near-term simplify the interface. Menus w/many options requires you arrow up or down across mult. columns. Needs an actual select/enter key. Need to work on carry handle/add 2nd strap to help balance weight when carrying over the shoulder – it’s lopsided traveling with it. Add a little more material on front flap – velcro barely meets & requires force to stretch it. Enlarge the detachable camera pouch to have a little more give. Work on gasket in Panner unit – needs a groove to rest in so sides no longer have tendency to flex inward toward batteries.
Upgraded from a Marcum lx-5
I had a lx-5 for around 5 years and decided to sell it and buy something new. I’ve had the lx-9 out on the ice about a dozen times now. The screen on this unit is crisp and the many different displays are sure to tailor any ones needs. I fish side by side with many of the newer vexilar 28 units and would prefer this unit. Yes it’s heavy but the display is awesome. I usually leave the camera at home which makes it a lot lighter. If you fish stained or murky waters the camera is about useless. I only have about 2′ visibility where I live. The heads up display would be bad as if you fished clearer waters. Overall I really enjoy this unit. Target adjust is sweet and there’s just to many features to explain. If you have the money and live by clear water this is the machine. If you have mostly murky water probably get a lx-7 and save a few bucks. I rated this four stars because of the case design. The handle is positioned in a way that leans the unit forward. Feels as if it may fall out if you don’t velcro the flap all the way. What gets me is that in a couple years the velcro will wear out and you have a 1200 dollar accident waiting to happen every time you pick it up by the handle. I plan on rigging something to fix this issue but for the money even the case should be solid.
Marcum lx-9 Bad set!
When i open a box with Marcum lx-9 I saw the torn bag and the camera have not clear glass and certainly not clear image on screen. After converse with Marcum service, they sent me new camera and bag for sonar. But new bag dont connect to camera bag because they have different size of jacks. And after first fishing with camera it leak!
Ok.. Marcum service sent me both bags, because they want to be sure they fit together and function properly and said what camera out of stock and will be in march.
But what i saw when i get both bags – two new bags lying separately with same problem – one dont fit to other!! Maybe its joke, or Marcum don’t respect the buyer and his time.
Still I didn’t receive the new camera, because now Marcum service said what new camera will be in May… maybe. About bags i dont get any comment from them.
Dont buy it because it too expensive for only sonar! And the cameras have many reject. You can buy same a half of price Marcum lx-9.
Great Machine! Well worth the $$
I’ve been using my MarCum LX-9 for a couple months now and the machine is great. The camera has helped me catch a lot more light-biting perch. It’s been both really fun and frustrating to watch the perch come in and just barely nip at the bait. While using the camera, I’ve also been able to bring my lure up when a pike comes in to check things out. In North Dakota, where we can darkhouse spear pike, I’ve recorded some good videos of the pike chasing the decoy before the spear hits them.
LX9 - some bad news and some good news
I read the review about damaged parts on the LX9, but since I was very happy with ordering my LX5 years ago, I thought I’d take my chances and ordered the LX9.
FIRST THE BAD
Unfortunately, when I received my LX9, I was disappointed to see what I would call a total breakdown in quality control at the Marcum site where this LX9 was put together and shipped. Below is what I discovered:
(1) The outer shipping box containing the Marcum box had no bubble wrap around the Marcum box or no other shipping material inside the shipping box. In other words, the Marcum box was allowed to slide around in the larger box during shipment (see photo).
(2) The 12V battery was upside down when I checked the battery compartment (see photo). As a result, the negative terminal on the battery was bent (see photo).
(3) The connector on the positive battery cable was also bent wide open (see photo). IMO, it is almost impossible for this connector to open this wide without someone using a pliers or something to pry it open (It made me think someone at the Marcum site is intentionally destroying these Marcum devices before shipping them out).
(1) My LX9 didn’t have a cracked lens.
(2) I immediately contacted Marcum and told them about the damage and included the same photos I posted on this review. A week and a half later Marcum sent me another 12V battery and battery cable.
(3) After I hooked everything up with the replacement parts, I must say this LX9 outshines the LX5! I’ve always wanted both a camera and sonar in an all-in-one screen.
THE NOT SO SURE
I have yet to take my LX9 on the ice because the ice on our lakes and reservoirs came later this winter where I live but I plan to try the camera soon. We’ll see how that lens holds up then.
I really like the product and dealing with MarCum was amazing.
The rest of the machine is great.
The battery only last about 4 hours. The rest of the machine is great.
This machine is literally industry leading technology I ordered it on Jan 5th 2016 and received it on Jan 6th no problems what so ever everything is good and in working order. took it out for the first time and is truly the best on the market today!! Well worth the money!
Makes ice fishing much more fun - and productive.
Once you ice fish with a camera you will feel naked fishing without it. 🙂 My 6 year old grandson loves fishing, but he can get a little figgity if nothing is biting. Having the camera and seeing what is going on keeps him (and me) so much more interested in what is going on down there. You can learn so much when you can see exactly how the fish is reacting to your bait. When perch fishing in deep water it is great to be able to take the bait away from the small fish, and just put it in front of the bigger ones (bringing the fish up from deeper waters can kill them as their air bladder expands into their mouth). Having the sonar and camera all on one big screen really works nice too. Lots of options to change how you want to view things. The unit can even record what’s on the camera, so if you see something cool you can share it later on.
thank you MarCum!
Well where should I start this is truly an amazing product well done MarCum I went fishing last week for walleye what a fun to put the camera down and see what kind of fish are down there very easy to operate thank you for such an amazing product I absolutely love I buy majority of my item from MarCum their customer service is a role model for how other businesses should treat their customers thank you MarCum!
well worth the price
Had an issue when I received the unit. I called the dealer and they took great care of me and then I shipped it to Marcum and they fixed it for free. Now everything is golden. Camera is so fun to watch and all the other features make this thing well worth the price.
